The upcoming movie Kalki 2898 AD has been officially delayed for over a month. The movie’s new release date announcement took the internet by storm. The announcement was accompanied by a brand new poster featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and legendary Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan. The poster’s backdrop features a war zone in the desert, so netizens are comparing it to Timothee Chalamet’s award-winning film Dune. However, director Nag Ashwin recently addressed the memes around the comparison and gave a rather befitting reply.
Nag Ashwin reacts to claims of Kalki 2898 AD being a copy of Dune
The makers of Kalki 2898 AD have kept its plotline under wraps. Therefore, rumors about the movie’s story have no bounds. Following the release of the latest poster, many are comparing the film to the Hollywood blockbuster Dune. Netizens are claiming that Nag Ashwin copied the Hollywood flick. Moreover, they have found an uncanny similarity between Zendaya and Deepika Padukone’s characters.
Memes have been revolving around social media stating similarities between Kalki 2898 AD and Dune. Many are also trolling filmmaker Nag Ashwin for the same. However, the director recently debunked all rumors during a recent media interaction. According to Pinkvilla, he said, “Yeah! (Laughed) That is because you see sand. Wherever you see sand, it looks like Dune.”
Earlier, the movie was being called India’s Star Wars. As many claimed that the Hollywood film franchise inspired the movie, Nag Ashwin denied all the rumors.
In the last update on the movie, the makers unveiled Amitabh Bachchan’s first look as the immortal Ashwatthama. In the short first glimpse teaser, Mr Bachchan could be seen clad in white attire. When a kid disrupts his centuries-long meditation, he reveals that the final battle is near.
The teaser, therefore, deepened the mystery behind Kalki 2898 AD’s plot.
The upcoming film will hit the theaters worldwide on June 27, 2024.
