Akshay Kumar to Join Vishnu Manchu, Prabhas’ Mythological Movie Kannappa?

The upcoming mythological movie Kannappa is touted to be the most ambitious project of Vishnu Manchu. Apart from the Telugu star, the film boasts an ensemble cast with some of the biggest names in the industry. While the movie is currently in production, the latest update on its cast has been made, and it is none other than Bollywood star Akshay Kumar.

Besides playing the titular role in the movie, Manchu wrote the story. Mukesh Kumar Singh directs the movie, while AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory bankroll it. During an interview with Variety, Manchu talked about his ambition for the film and said, “What was Kannappa before he became a devotee? It’s just a one-liner. So, I thought, why not recreate the world of Kannappa? Why don’t we transport them to a world in the second century and that’s how this whole thing came into play. The visuals and the world we’re taking people in to, it is brilliant.”

Will Akshay Kumar soon star in a South movie?

Kannappa’s star cast has grabbed many headlines before. Prabhas, Mohanlal, Mohan Babu, Nayanthara, Shiva Rajkumar, and Madhubala have come on board to play critical roles in the movie. Film producer BA Raju recently confirmed that Akshay Kumar has joined the movie. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the producer wrote, “@akshaykumar #AkshayKumar To Star In @iVishnuManchu’s Highly Anticipated Pan Indian Project #Kannappa, He Will Be Joining The Sets Soon.” The actor is currently gearing up for the release of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.

Vishnu Manchu has been regularly sharing updates on Kannappa via his social media. On the occasion of Mahashivratri, the actor unveiled his look as Kannappa. He wrote, “Honoured and privileged to portray the greatest devotee of Lord Shiva, ‘Kannappa’. Today on MahaShivaRatriॐ, here is your Kannappa.” The movie’s production is taking place in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.

Kannappa will mark Kumar’s second movie in the South industry. Akshay Kumar made his South industry debut opposite Rajinikanth in the 2018 Tamil movie 2.0.
