Is Sonakshi Sinha’s Upcoming Series Heeramandi Going For Emmys?

The buzz around Sonakshi Sinha’s upcoming Netflix series Heeramandi is reaching a fever pitch, with fans speculating its potential global acclaim. Amidst this, renowned filmmaker Nikkhil Advani has shared his thoughts about the upcoming series, which propel the discussions about Heeramandi going for the Emmys.

Director Nikkhil Advani wants to see Sonakshi Sinha’s Heeramandi at Emmys

Advani, known for movies like Kal Ho Naa Ho and Salaam-e-Ishq, recently shared his insights on the evolving scene of Indian cinema and its foray into the streaming platforms. In a recent interview, Advani predicted that Heeramandi could be the game-changer that elevates Indian content on the global stage. He expressed his conviction, stating, “I think what will break everything is Heeramandi.”

Advani’s optimism stems from the belief that Sonakshi Sinha’s Heeramandi has the potential to shatter stereotypes and grab the international audience’s attention.

Reflecting on the prevailing perception of India in the West as an exotic land, he emphasized the need for storylines that defy clichés. He remarked, “Now, the West will watch because what is it that we have? We have snake charmers and elephants, right? Unfortunately, we have been the country of snake charmers. But foreigners want that only. They still come in for exotica. RRR was an exotica.”

The filmmaker added, “I am looking forward to seeing Bhansali at the Golden Globes and Emmys next year. I think what Monica (Shergill) and the company did with RRR, they will do with Heeramandi.”

Sonakshi Sinha’s upcoming series is set against the backdrop of pre-independence India and the bustling alleys of Heeramandi, Lahore. Moreover, it promises an immersive experience steeped in love, power, revenge, and freedom. Furthermore, the stellar cast includes Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and others.

Netflix, the streaming giant backing the project, is going to leverage its global reach to propel Heeramandi onto the international stage. After all, Tanya Bami, series head at Netflix India, hailed it as “India’s gift to the world.”

In conclusion, whether Heeramandi will go for Emmy remains to be seen. Until then, wait for the upcoming series to release on May 1, 2024.
