Dhanush has always expressed his endless admiration for music maestro Ilaiyaraaja. He called the latter his inspiration and was in talks to star in a biopic for a long time. Now, his dream of playing the music legend in a biopic is coming true. After several speculations, the film was recently announced along with a poster.
Ilaiyaraaja’s biopic announcement event was a star-studded one. Apart from Dhanush and the maestro himself, Tamil star Kamal Haasan also attended the event. Arun Mathesaran has been roped in to direct the movie, while Connekkt Media, PK Prime Production, and Mercuri Movies bankroll the film.

Ilaiyaraaja to compose music for his biopic
What has made the upcoming biopic more special is that Ilaiyaraaja himself is composing its music. According to India Today, Dhanush spoke about his admiration for the music legend at the launch event.
He said, “I always say ‘what you think is what you become’. Most of us listen to Ilaiyaraaja’s songs at night to sleep. But, I had sleepless nights thinking how I’d act like Ilaiyaraaja. I manifested it. I’ve always dreamt of acting in two biopics – one is Ilaiyaraaja’s and one is Thalaivar Rajinikanth. And one of them is coming true. It’s a matter of pride for me.”
The actor then mentioned that he is aware that acting in the movie will be a challenge. However, he is not scared as he believes Ilaiyaraaja’s music will guide him.
