Filmmaker Surya Kiran, best known for movies like Saytam and Raju Bhai, passed away after suffering from jaundice.
The former director worked as a child actor in over two hundred films under the stage name Master Suresh. He made his directorial debut with Satyam (2003) and went on to direct other Telugu-language films. He stopped acting and directing, only reappearing on season 4 of Bigg Boss Telugu in 2020.
Surya Kiran was briefly married to actor Kalyani, known for her role in Avunu Valliddharu Ishtapaddaru, but the couple parted ways. His sister, Sujitha Dhanush, is also a television actor. He died in Chennai due to jaundice at the age of 51. His spokesperson confirmed the news.

On Match 11, 2024, PRO Suresh took to X to share the news of Surya Kiran’s passing. The spokesperson wrote, “Director Surya Kiran has passed away due to jaundice. He directed telugu films, Satyam, Raju Bhai and a few others. He was also a former contestant on Bigg Boss Telugu. Om Shanti.”
Several Telugu production houses and fans also tweeted to pay their respects. Annapurna Studios wrote, “Our journey together for Satyam was special. May your soul rest in peace #SuryaKiran Garu. Strength to the family.”
Surya Kiran and his family hail from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, but he was born in Chennai. Some of his films as a child actor included Kadal Meengal (1981), Mangamma Sabadham (1985), Manithan, Swayam Krushi and Khaidi No 786 in 1987.
His debut film, Satyam, was a romantic comedy with Sumanth and Genelia Deshmukh in the lead roles. The movie garnered a lot of success and ran for over 150 days in theatres. His work includes Brahmastram (2006), Raju Bhai (2007) and Chapter 6 (2020). Surya Kiran was planning his comeback in 2017 but ended up having his movie stuck in the development phase.
