Director Nag Ashwin Teases Kalki 2898 AD Plot

The clock is ticking for the makers of Kalki 2898 AD as they have only a few months left for post-production. It seems that the makers are working at their full potential to bring out the best cinematic experience for the viewers. However, there are several questions that fans have in mind about the Prabhas starrer. Recently, director Nag Ashwin spilled beans on the film’s plot and confirmed that it has a connection with Mahabharat.

Nag Ashwin, who is known for his works Mahanti, Yevade Subramanyam, and more, is serving as the director for Kalki 2898 AD. The director has roped in extremely talented actors from various industries in one movie. Apart from the lead star Prabhas, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan is playing a key role. Deepika Padukone and Disha Patni are the leading ladies and Tamil star Kamal Haasan has come on board for a crucial role.

Is Kalki 2898 AD based on Mahabharat?

Amid the massive buzz around Kalki 2898 AD, Nag Ashwin recently teased some plot details. The director attended the Synapse 2024 event and revealed the timeline the movie’s plot is based on. As per Hindustan Times, he said, “The film starts with Mahabharat and ends in 2898 AD. It spans 6000 years in time. We tried to create worlds, imagining what they would be like while still keeping it Indian, and not make it look like Blade Runner.” He added that the movie is “6000 years behind 2898 AD is 3102 BC, which is when the last avatar of Krishna is believed to have passed.”

Nag Ashwin confirmed that he has not tried the AI yet and rather built massive sets for the movie. Emphasizing the importance of practical work, the director said, “We had to build so many sets, designs, vehicles for this film. It was a lot of process to ideate, conceptualise, build it, prototype, machinery, aging. Had I used Sora, I wouldn’t need to do this. It could just be a prompt and I wouldn’t need to go for VFX.”

“I am also thinking that, in the process of this struggle, will some magic come through? Because we take months to perfect this, something new could happen. If it’s as easy as a prompt, are you missing something as a creator?”

Kalki 2898 AD is ready to hit theaters across the globe on May 9, 2024.
