Tamil superstar Rajinikanth is all set to take the cinemas by storm once again with his upcoming film Lal Salaam. The actor was last seen in the massive blockbuster film Jailer, which broke records. He earned millions with the movie, and the same is expected with Lal Salaam. Since the film’s trailer and songs were released, the buzz around it has increased. Lal Salaam is a sports drama that revolves around cricket. Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth are playing the lead roles in the movie. Moreover, Vignesh, Jeevitha, Senthil, KS Ravikumar, Nirosha, and others have been roped in to play supporting roles. Cricket legend Kapil Dev also has a cameo in the film. The movie’s plot revolves around two aspiring cricketers who are kicked out of the team despite being talented. They face many hurdles in life but have overcome them and strive hard to achieve their goal. Apart from the sport, the movie’s Tamil festival theme attracts viewers. Its first single, Ther Thiruvizha, is a visual spectacle, without a doubt.
Rajinikanth’s daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth, is making her comeback to the director’s chair with the film. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Aishwarya shared her experience of directing her superstar father and called it a masterclass. She said, “Directing Appa (father) was something I never expected in my life to start with, it was a blessing. Every single day of working with him was a mini masterclass – how he handles himself on set and as a professional, artist in the industry. His dedication, devotion, and seriousness about work, even at this age and time of his life, is something I think everyone in the industry should learn.”
Lal Salaam: Rajinikanth’s role in this sports drama
Unlike his other movies, Rajinikanth is playing an extended cameo in Lal Salaam. He is portraying the role of Moideen Bhai, a popular personality who is known for living on his terms and ethics. Seemingly, his character believes in communal harmony and he teaches the same to the people around him. It can be said that his minimal yet dashing presence on the screen is worth watching.
The first few reviews of the movie involve immense praise for the superstar. Lal Salaam’s lead actor, Vishnu Vishal, lauded Rajinikanth for his performance. The actor was in awe of Thalaivar’s screen presence as he took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Dubbing done… In awe of thalaivar’s performance… Trust me guys… It’s gonna be a great watch.”
Moreover, celebrated music composer AR Rahman also lauded Rajinikanth for his work in the film. The Academy Award-winning music legend mentioned that he was afraid the movie would come out to be cringy. But, to his surprise, he found the film interesting, all because of Rajinikanth. During the grand audio launch event of the movie, as per Indian Express, he said, “The scenes that I thought would be cringy and preachy were handled very thoughtfully and were heartwarming. I then asked her who wrote dialogues for the movie, and she said, ‘I wrote and Appa changed a bit.’ I realized it was his wisdom. Because he respects everything, he has researched well and has said many rare things.”
Allegedly, Lal Salaam’s official run time is 2 hours 32 minutes. Moreover, the film has been awarded a U/A certification by the Central Board of Film Certification of India. The movie will hit the theaters on February 9, 2024.
