Gully Boy Ending Explained & Spoilers: How Did Ranveer Singh’s Movie End?

Gully Boy, a film released in 2019, is an Indian Hindi-language musical drama. It is directed by Zoya Akhtar, who co-wrote it with Reema Kagti. Gully Boy is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, and Farhan Akhtar under Tiger Baby Films and Excel Entertainment productions. The American rapper Nas was also an executive producer for the movie. The movie stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role. The cast also includes Alia Bhatt, Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Varma, Vijay Raaz, and Amruta Subhash.

The film is a narrative inspired by the lives of Indian street rappers DIVINE and Naezy, and it follows the story of Murad Ahmed (played by Ranveer Singh), a young man from Dharavi in Mumbai aspiring to be a rapper.

What caused problem at Murad’s home?

Set in the bustling city of Mumbai, Murad is a final-year college student living in the impoverished slums of Dharavi. He endures a challenging family life, particularly with his abusive father, Aftab Shakir Ahmed, who increases the family’s strain by marrying a second, much younger wife. Despite his circumstances, Murad harbors a deep passion for rap music, a creative outlet where he expresses his experiences and aspirations.

Murad’s romantic life is equally complex. He is involved with Safeena Firdausi, a determined but possessive young woman studying to become a surgeon. Their relationship is kept secret from Safeena’s parents. Murad’s life shifts when he begins working as a driver due to his father’s injury. This exposes him to the stark disparities of wealth and lifestyle in the city, which he expresses through his rap lyrics.

How did Murad meet MC Sher?

Murad’s musical journey gains momentum when he meets local rapper Shrikant “MC Sher” Bhosle at a college event. Sher encourages him to perform at local shows and battles, leading to Murad gaining recognition through a YouTube video.

This exposure brings him into contact with Shweta “Sky” Mehta, a Berklee College music student and aspiring producer. She proposes a collaboration with Murad and Sher, resulting in a successful music video shot in Dharavi. Murad and Sky’s professional collaboration turns intimate, leading to a secret affair. When Safeena discovers this, she reacts violently towards Sky. The confrontation escalates but does not lead to legal consequences, as Sky opts not to press charges.

This incident leads to Murad breaking up his relationship with Safeena. Meanwhile, domestic conflicts escalate, driving Murad to leave home with his mother and brother to live with his uncle. Despite these personal roadblocks, Murad remains dedicated to his music.

Meanwhile, when Sky reveals her romantic feelings, Murad politely rejects her as he still harbors feelings for Safeena. He gains confidence and assertiveness from his growing fan base, which empowers him to stand up to his father and uncle regarding his musical ambitions.

Gully Boy ending: Did Murad win the competition?

Murad’s talent is recognized when he participates in a competition to open for Nas in Mumbai, where he triumphs in a compelling rap battle, advancing to the finals. The climax of the film sees Murad win the contest, establishing himself as a prominent rapper in India.

The film concludes with Murad’s victorious performance, watched by his friends, family, and a supportive Safeena, symbolizing his journey from the confines of Dharavi to the heights of the rap music scene, embodying hope, resilience and the transformative power of pursuing one’s dreams.
