The film’s plot revolves around Pathaan, a highly skilled RAW agent, and his quest to prevent a catastrophic plan against India. It intertwines with the broader political context, notably the fallout from India’s abolition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. This particularly fuels the narrative’s primary antagonist – General Qadir of Pakistan and the rogue ex-RAW agent, Jim (John Abraham), who heads the mercenary group Outfit X.

What is the Raktbeej?

Pathaan’s mission becomes personal when he learns of Raktbeej. It is a mutated smallpox virus created by Jim using a kidnapped Indian scientist’s expertise. The virus, more lethal than a nuclear weapon, poses an unprecedented threat. Its containment forms the crux of the story.

The film’s climax is a masterclass in suspense and action. It involves Pathaan and his team, along with ISI agent Rubina (Deepika Padukone), in a race against time in Afghanistan. Though Rubina initially appears as an enemy, but later allies with Pathaan. They aim to prevent Jim from releasing a missile carrying the smallpox virus targeted at an Indian city. In a shocking twist, it’s revealed that the real threat is aboard a commercial flight bound for Delhi. Jim plans to release the virus in Delhi through the air ducts of the airplane while landing.

Pathaan ending: Was Pathaan able to stop Jim?

Pathaan’s relentless pursuit leads to a gripping confrontation with Jim. Meanwhile, Rubina discovers the diversion with the missile. She immediately informs Pathaan about the real danger on the flight. The situation escalates as the Indian government faces a dreadful decision. They are left with no choice but to shoot down the plane with innocent passengers to prevent a catastrophic outbreak. In a race against time, Pathaan manages to retrieve the detonator from Jim, neutralizing the threat just moments before the virus’ release.

Pathaan, after successfully thwarting Jim’s plan and avenging the deaths caused by the smallpox virus, is requested by Colonel Luthra to continue his service for the nation. The narrative takes a reflective turn as Pathaan and Tiger (Salman Khan), another iconic character from the YRF Spy Universe, contemplate their aging and the future of their roles both within the spy world and in the broader context of Indian cinema.

The post-credit scene further cements the interconnectedness of the YRF Spy Universe. The casual conversation between Tiger and Pathaan, laden with puns and references, also hints at the future trajectory of the franchise. This scene not only ties Pathaan with the Tiger series and War but also teases the audience with the promise of more thrilling espionage adventures.

Pathaan thus combines intense action sequences, high-stakes espionage, and emotionally charged moments, culminating in a story of patriotism, sacrifice, and the indomitable spirit of a national hero.
