Salaar Director Prashanth Neel on A Rating: ‘I’ve Not Made a Vulgar Movie’

Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire is among the most-awaited movies of the year. The film will face Shah Rukh Khan’s action comedy Dunki at the box office. Despite the Prabhas starrer being an emotional movie filled with drama and action, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave it an A-certificate. This means that the movie can be watched only by adults over 18 years of age. While the film’s producer revealed that they were fine with the certification, director Prashanth Neel felt otherwise.

In a recent interaction with SS Rajamouli, Prashanth Neel, Prabhas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran shared several details about Salaar. During the conversation, the director also revealed his reaction to the film’s A certificate. He clarified how his intention was not to make a violent film, but the story demanded action. He said, “The intention was never to make a movie so violent that it is going to get an A certificate. I’ve seen Telugu cinema for years now and the violence in my film is pale in comparison to them. But, they drew out new guidelines recently. the sensor officer also told me that this is what it is.”

Salaar director says he was disappointed with film’s A certificate

Prashanth Neel revealed that he refused to make several cuts as they would have hampered the film’s plot. For receiving a U/A certificate, the director revealed, “They were asking for a lot of cuts. I was okay to do all of those cuts. But, there were a couple of cuts which I did not want to remove because it was not going to satisfy the story of the movie.”

The director further said, “I was very disappointed, I sat in front of her for 20 min. I know that I have not made a vulgar movie or a movie that is insensible with violence. It is all necessary violence.” Ultimately, it was Prabhas who told Neel to take the certificate that CBFC was providing.

Salaar will hit the theaters on December 22, 2023.
