Superstar Rajinikanth Movies List: Jailer, Chandramukhi, Baba, 2.0 & More

Superstar Rajinikanth celebrated his 73rd birthday on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. The actor has been in the industry for over four decades now and has entertained the masses thoroughly. His on-screen presence has always been lauded nationwide, which is why his fans always remain excited to watch his next movie.

While his upcoming film, tentatively titled Thalaivar 170, can take some time, here is a list of some Rajinikanth’s films to enjoy on his birthday. Notably, the superstar gave brilliant performances in several movies, including Jailer, Chandramukhi, Baba, Kabali, and 2.0, and the same has been listed below.

Jailer

Rajinikanth’s last cinematic venture was Jailer. The movie was released in 2023 and was an immediate blockbuster. Nelson Dilipkumar directed this action comedy, while Sun Pictures produced it. The superstar took home a whopping $13.13 million due to the movie’s massive success.

Jailer’s plot revolves around Muthuvel Pandian, played by Rajinikanth, who is the jailer of a prison. He sets out to stop a gang when its members try to flee their leader from the jail. Tamannaah Bhatia, Vinayakan, and Shiva Rajkumar, among others, played supporting roles. As per Hindustan Times, the movie minted $78 million at its worldwide box office. 

Chandramukhi

Rajinikanth took up the role of a psychiatrist, Dr Sravanan, in this 2005 classic horror comedy Chandramukhi. The plot follows an NRI couple who decide to stay at their ancestral home despite several warnings. As things take a horrific turn in the house, they call their psychiatrist friend seeking help.

The movie became a massive hit in 2005 and attracted many moviegoers. P Vasu helmed Chandramukhi, which was based on the Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. It garnered a whopping $18 million at the worldwide box office. 

Baba

Baba is an action drama released in 2002. Rajinikanth, Manisha Koirala, Ashish Vidyarthi and more played key roles in the film. The film’s plot follows the story of Baba, played by Rajinikanth, who is an atheist. As Baba always questioned the higher power, his life took a drastic turn when he was bestowed with divine powers. However, he took the opportunity to help his villagers.

Produced by Lotus International, Suresh Krissna took the role of the film’s director.

Kabali

Kabali is among the most popular titles in the Rajinikanth movies list. Kabali came out in 2016 and was one of the most anticipated films of that year. Pa Ranjith directed the movie.

Rajinikanth played the role of Kabali, a common man who raises his voice against the troubles faced by Tamil laborers in Malaysia. However, he was imprisoned for 25 years. After completing his prison term, he seeks revenge on his enemies. The action crime drama received mixed reviews from the audience and critics. Radhika Apte, Sai Dhanshika, Attakathi Dinesh, Winston Chao played supporting roles in the movie. 

2.0

Following the massive success of his 2010 film Ethiran, aka Robot, Rajinikanth reprised his dual role for 2.0. He played both scientist Dr Vaseegaran and his robot, Chhiti, in the movie. On the other hand, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar played the lead antagonist in the movie.

Amy Jackson, Maya Sundarakrishnan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Sudhanshu Pandey played supporting characters. The 2018 movie is still among the most successful Indian movies. It garnered a whopping $32.6 million at its worldwide box office.

Now, all eyes are on Rajinikanth’s 170th movie. The film is reported to be an action drama and features an ensemble cast. Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has come on board for the project. Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, and Ritika Singh are also part of the cast list and will play supporting roles in Thalaivar 170.
