The video features Morgan’s character as he investigates the mysterious healings of a young girl who claims that she supposedly doing the miracles in the name of the Virgin Mary. However, it looks like the miracles aren’t holy as it seems as they’ll soon find out that there’s something more sinister and dark that’s deceiving the faith of believers.
The Unholy follows Alice, a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate. When terrifying events begin to happen all around, he starts to question if these phenomena are the works of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister.
Joining Morgan are William Sadler (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey), Katie Aselton (Legion), Cary Elwes (Saw), Christine Adams (Black Lightning), and Diogo Morgado (The Bible).
The Unholy is written and directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast, Snake Eyes). It will be produced by Ghost House’s Sam Raimi (Drag Me to Hell) and Robert Tapert (The Evil Dead).
The project first found life in December of 2018 when Screen Gems acquired the rights to the novel and Spiliotopoulos signed on to write, direct and produce alongside Ghost House’s Shrine will mark the second collaboration between Morgan and Ghost House since the 2012 box office hit The Possession.
