Book Review: The Art & Making Of INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE

Titan Books releases a massive coffee table book featuring the art of the INDEPENDENCE DAY sequel.

The 2016 summer blockbuster season has descended upon us and has already swept us up into wallet draining frenz, a frenzy that also saw the return of those nasty, White House destroying alien beasties from ID4 in the 20 year rumored and speculated sequel INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE.  This mammoth, successful yet critically drubbed sequel hit the theaters late last June, just in time for this year’s 4th of July festivities.  Following in the wake of RESURGENCE’s release is the exquisite companion piece book from Titan Books called The Art and Making of INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE.

This amazing 176 page coffee table book is outright thorough and everything a fan would need to sate their ID appetitex.  Written by Simon Ward, this book features a foreword by director Roland Emmerich, fictional chapters written in the voice of David Levinson, the character played by Jeff Goldblum (his personal take on things and his recollections of events) and there are multiple character bios and interviews from the actors featured in both of the ID movies.

The gorgeous page-turner compiles the extensive amount of concept art that went into the final look of both films with an obviously heavy leaning on the art of RESURGENCE, everything from the look, the alien technology (from their ship to their weapons), costume designs, creature designs, conceptual art, behind-the-scenes photography and set decorations.  This book is so tightly crammed full of extraterrestrial goodness, the layout is lush, detailed and really quite the treat for all film buffs out there.  It is mind-blowing how much preparation, craftsmanship and the caliber of talent that truly goes into making films of this scale. Love the movie or don’t, the craftsmanship is staggering.

The Art and Making of INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE is now available via Titan Books and many other online and retail outlets.
