Set in 1990, The Others’ director Alejando Amenábar’s new thriller looks imbued with haunting Satanic Panic as a detective works to uncover the mystery behind a father’s unspeakable crime.
There’s an elegance to Amenábar’s filmmaking which, like Tesis and The Others, tends to carry you right toward something scary, disturbing or totally suspenseful. Regression seems perfectly in line, and maybe even closer to something like Thesis where the reveal is truly unsettling.
In Regression, “Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) investigates the case of young Angela (Emma Watson), who accuses her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery.”
Regression is out August 28th from Dimension. It’s one of the most anticipated horror films of the summer.
