Friday the 13th Writer Says New Film is ‘Not a Sequel’

This past March, Hannibal writer Nick Antosca came aboard the developing new Friday the 13th, to be directed by David Bruckner and produced by Platinum Dunes. Just after Dunes producer Brad Fuller told Shock how fans helped stop a found footage version of the film, Antosca reveals the new Friday won’t be a sequel to the 2009 remake.

Spotted by Bloody D, Antosca tweeted in reply to a fan question yesterday. He writes, “it’s not a sequel to the 2009 version. Different characters, time period, style.” Though producer Fuller previously mentioned he was intrigued by Jason’s supernatural qualities and how that all works, just this week he told Shock, “At the end of the day, those movies are so fantastic because Jason Voorhees is such a dynamic presence and people love to see him do what he does well. We hope to put Jason in a situation where he’s able to do that again, and it doesn’t feel like you’re seeing the same thing over and over.”

Is the upcoming Friday the 13th heading truly back to basics? For more, see Fuller’s comments on nixing found footage right here. Friday the 13th is currently set for release May 13th, 2016.
