Set Image: Ash Vs. Evil Dead Director Shows Off Necronomicon

It is entitled Naturum De Montum, roughly translated: Book of the Dead. The object responsible (other than Ash) for unleashing deadites unto the world of The Evil Dead is a book bound in human flesh and inked in human blood, and which roughly changes appearance in each entry of the beloved series. How might it look in the highly anticipated upcoming Starz series, Ash vs. Evil Dead? Director Michael J. Bassett is here to show you.

Posting to Instagram, Bassett—who joins Sam Raimi, Rick Jacobson and more in helming episodes of the Evil Dead sequel series—revealed the book, which retains its agitated face.

Premiering this fall, Ash vs. Evil Dead sees Bruce Campbell reprise his most iconic role as an older Ash, dodging responsibility and deadites. The S-mart employee teams with two youngsters when evil rises again. Campbell is  joined by Lucy Lawless as Ruby, a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks; Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick; Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past; and Jill Marie Jones as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner. Sam Raimi directs the pilot episode.

Find Bassett’s photo below, as well as a gallery in which I’ve handily transported all you need to know about the series from our interview with Raimi, Campbell and producer Rob Tapert.
