Poltergeist Trailer: More Than a Few Pissed Off Ghosts

The second official Poltergeist trailer is here and through the sort of modern conceit of unnaturally strobing a preview to make it seem more intense, there are some nice nods and inversions to the original Spielberg-produced, Tobe Hooper-directed classic. 

It’s certainly cute that the young Griffin Bowen’s (Kyle Catlett) bedsheets in the film recall the hat and dress of the original creepy clown doll, or that the famous bathroom face horror is now glimpsed through the funhouse reflection of the faucet, rather than the mirror.

There are plenty of other similarities, as well. After all the film is still about a suburban family whose daughter is taken by the poltergeist which plagues them, and as Jared Harris’ character explains, their development was built atop a cemetery. Directed by Gil Kenan, Poltergeist 2015 stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris and Jane Adams. 20th Century Fox and MGM release the film on  May 22.
