Small details on upcoming The Ring film Rings are revealed with the casting of young actor Alex Roe.
Roe, who will be seen in 2016 YA adaptation 5th Wave, plays the male lead in November’s Rings, opposite the already cast Matilda Lutz. Deadline reports Roe stars as Holt, “the boyfriend to Lutzs character and becomes distant from her after watching the tape.” Rings has previously been reported as something of a prequel , chronicling the origin of Samara’s supernatural attacks. This left many wondering if it would actually replay Samara’s tragic story, or simply reveal the first time the tape had affected someone. The latter seems to be in store, unless Rings‘ structure flashes between the past and present.
F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) is helming the film, slated for release November 13, 2015. The director recently teases Samara’s appearance on Instagram with the above photo.
