Reitman, Aykroyd, Tatum Developing Dude Ghostbusters, As Well

Seemingly stifled by the sensibilities of a lady led Ghostbusters, Sony has set original director Ivan Reitman and star Dan Aykroyd as leaders of a Ghostcorps production company to develop a “guy-themed” counterpart and expand into a Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe.

Deadline reports Drew Pearce and the Russo Brothers (Community, Captain America: The Winter Soldier) will develop a dude-centric Ghostbusters, with Channing Tatum possibly starring and Iron Man 3’s Pearce writing.

Reitman tells the site, “We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July, 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year.”

How cool that a wonderful, funny, organic classic is now coldly branded entertainment!

And so the Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wiig-starring Ghostbusters will hit in ’16 and the hope is to have the Tatum-led follow-up in ’17. Will they meet in the middle of the school gym and dance beyond that? The Russos, who did a hell of a job on Winter Soldier are next helming Captain America: Civil War, and are rumored to be talking on The Avengers two-part Infinity War movies. As of now, they are not officially also directing the gestating Ghostbusters.

Update: Badass Digest reports the two films are envisioned to meet and that Chris Pratt is possibly in on the ground floor with Tatum on this second Ghostbusters. It seems the ‘all-guy narrative’ was injected and emphasized by Deadine, not Sony, and there are even two more films planned beyond this: the one that would see the two teams cross and an undetermined prequel.
