Brooklyn: Druid Underground Film Festival Encores this Friday

I don’t have an accurate description for the Druid Underground Film Festival. I can tell you that this roadshow package of shorts is a must-see. Festival founder and curator Billy Burgess scours and showcases slates of the surreal, visionary, lo-fi and utterly mad. It’s a time and a place and a state of mind, and the venue for this week’s Druid Underground Film Festival Encore is perhaps far too aptly named: Nothing Space.

This Friday, February 20th, Brooklyn’s Nothing Space (56 Bogart St. #219) will host a special, two-hour encore screening of the best avant-weird shorts of the 2014 season. Burgess will be on hand with raffles and introductions to visceral, lunatic and experimental work like The Great Lincoln Packard Breakdown, Laundry, surreal baby phobia short Smerdly’s Seahorse, nude Satan film Devil’s Arrest, a remaster of Super 8 all-timer Skate Witches and more.

Also relevant is Burgess has opened the 2015 call for entries. He writes, “The Druid Underground Film Festival is on the hunt for fearless new films for its 8th annual jolt of absurd and inspiring programming! Each year DUFF tours across the USA presenting a fresh cavalcade of outrageous, creative works, which recklessly skate through experimental, comedy and horror. Contribute your film to one of the last surviving film festival roadshows in America as we exhibit from NYC to LA and a dozen venues in between.”

If your work is silly, strange, electric, new, abrasive and totally fucking out there, you should absolutely want to take part. DUFF has a series of deadlines throughout February, March, April and May. You can submit at the official site.
