If you ever find yourself in need of a place to stay, its probably not a good idea to check into an inn run by a Nazi. After a turbulent night of violence in Paris, a group of friends escape the police by hiding away at an inn near the border. What the individuals failed to notice was that the people running the place were a little cray cray and that they had an insatiable love for human flesh. Their night takes an unexpected and even more violent turn when the friends are tortured, confined in pig-pens, wounded, and killed. The family who run the operation are overly disturbing in the ways that they treat the living, especially a group of rejected children that they keep out in a mine located on their land. The careless acts of violence and non-chalant attitude that they have toward their actions makes the family completely terrifying in every way.
In Texas, the saw is family, which is a motto that Leatherface and his loved ones live by. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the king of horror movies about killer families, and for good reason: it brought us one of the most iconic horror villains and provided us with realistic violence in a realistic atmosphere, all without spilling a drop of blood. The film set the standard and defined the backwoods horror, providing audiences with the perfect combination of fear and entertainment. Not only was Leatherface a unique character with a destruction streak, his family members were interesting too. The dinner scene where the final girl, Sally, is forced to feed Grandpa was haunting and perfect at creating a sense of overwhelming uneasiness. Not to mention, the scene, along with the film, have been recreated in homages throughout the genre. In a battle of the killer families, Leatherface and his family reign supreme.
These families set the bar for dysfunctional. Whenever you think that your family sucks, just be thankful that they arent forcing you to eat humans, kill people, or have sex with your brother. Unless they are then youve got bigger problems to deal with that we cant actually solve with a top 10 list.
