The nominations for the 39th annual Saturn Awards were revealed overnight. We won’t get into all of the films, television shows, actors and home video releases, however, we will draw attention to the straight-up peculiar nominations that fall under the “horror/thriller” category.
Argo, The Cabin in the Woods, The Impossible, Seven Psychopaths, The Woman in Black and Zero Dark Thirty all received noms.
Yes, Argo and Zero Dark Thirty. Dramas with thrilling elements. Now, I could be wrong, but the Saturn Awards were created to recognize titles that would not normally get much love at the Academy Awards or Golden Globes: Science fiction, horror and fantasy films.
But, business is business and nominated Argo and Zero Dark Thirty is clearly the Saturn organizers’ attempt to get talent associated with those films to attend. So, that means other potentially worthy horrorfilms get snubbed.
American Horror Story: Asylum got some love. So, there’s that. For the full breakdown of nominations, head here.
