The CW Combines Hunger Games With Contagion in Sick

A few months back, rumors circulated that The CW was looking into buying the rights for Battle Royale to turn the cult hit into an American series.  Clearly, the network was looking to fill some void that a Hunger Games clone could fill and it appears that it might have found something.  But it’s not Battle Royale.

According to Deadline, The CW has picked up the drama spec Sick which presents a world in which adults become “allergic” to teens because of a mysterious virus.  The potential series would focus on a group of quarantined teens who go on the run.  Deadline says it’s a cross between Contagion and The Hunger Games.

Sean Hood penned the script; he’s no stranger to horror having penned Halloween: Resurrection and episodes of Masters of Horror and Fear Itself.

With Sick under its belt, I wonder if The CW is still pursuing Battle Royale now…
