Fred Krueger is the bastard child of 1,000 maniacs. He has haunted the dreams of children on screen and off for nearly 30 years.
Wes Craven originally came up with the idea after hearing of a man who was terrified of sleep and took extreme measures to avoid falling asleep. Freddy Krueger is the ultimate cinematic killer for several reasons.
He is terrifying because he can reach his victims during sleep, when they are most vulnerable. He is also one of the smartest and most charismatic horror film killers. Krueger really shines in parts one, three and seven. Robert Englund is undisputedly the best portrayal of Fred Krueger. Englund made the character his own and played the role in every installment other than the ill fated 2010 reboot.
Weapon of choice: Razor-blade glove.
