The Fringe: Kinnaman Talks RoboCop Remake

Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) did some talking about the RoboCop remake.  If you haven’t heard, he’s the new Alex Murphy and he’ll be slipping into that character’s skin for director Jose Padilha this September when shooting begins.

The actor spoke to Collider and had this to say about the director’s vision: “José has a completely different take on this than Verhoeven had, and with all respect, everybody that’s involved in this movie loved the original and we have a lot of respect for it.  We’re going to have a lot of throwbacks and there’s going to be a lot of fun stuff for the fans of the first movie.  It’s a new story within the old one.”

Gary Oldman will play opposite Kinnaman as RoboCop’s creator.  Kinnaman revealed the story is, “very much a relationship between Gary Oldman’s character and Alex Murphy.”  We posited earlier that the casting of someone like Oldman as RoboCop’s creator would take the story in a new direction (you don’t waste an actor like that on a background role) and that appears to be true.

More on the redo as it comes in!
