“It’s not really the horror genre, but it kind of is, too,” says actor Matthew Goode (Watchmen) about the upcoming Fox Searchlight film Stoker, which, he clarifies, has no connection to Dracula scribe Bram Stoker.
Goode spoke to Digital Spy recently about the thriller, starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska. Filming took place last year under the direction of Park Chan-wook (Oldboy), making his U.S. debut.
Inside, see what Goode had to say about his character.
The film’s sysnopsis goes like this: After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
Goode says his character, “turns up at this funeral – the opening shot is of Nicole and Mia, they’re a mother and daughter, he’s the uncle and it’s his brother who’s died. [Charlie] hasn’t been around for 25 years he’s been off traveling, or so we think, and various people start to disappear. Then you realize there’s possibly a pre-disposition in the bloodline of the family to do dark things. It should be great.”
Shock was on the set of Stoker, stay tuned for a report!
