The Future of Hammer Films Filled With Poltergeists & a Few Old Friends

When we last spoke to producer Simon Oakes of Hammer Films it was during the release of the British horror house’s Let Me In, a remake of Let the Right One In.  At the time, Oakes spoke of some rather big plans for Hammer, which entailed the rebooting of a few properties, namely Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter and Quatermass.  We checked in with Oakes recently to discuss the latest Hammer project he produced, The Woman in Black, and got an update on the company’s future.

“We have a very active slate,” Oakes said.  “What we did with Kronos is we developed a new novella as part of our publishing thing.  We are rebooting Quatermass.  We are developing a really cool poltergeist story – I can’t give you a title yet because it’s still under wraps.  And, we’re looking at, without giving too much away, a couple of the iconic characters like Frankenstein and Dracula and looking at a [new] Hammer approach to those.”

So, Kronos and Quatermass projects are alive and well.  The “poltergeist project” is a new one, and so are Hammer’s plans to revisit Frankenstein and Dracula, which could be very interesting.
