Roy Lee: 2012 May Be Year for Poltergeist Remake

Producer on the MGM redo

Can the producer of films such as The Strangers, The Departed and The Ring finally get the Poltergeist remake off of the ground?

In talking about upcoming projects, while on the set of 7500, Lee told Shock: “The one I’m most excited about is a Poltergeist reboot and that is probably something, hopefully, next year someone will be able to accomplish.” When asked if he was going to be involved in that project he confirmed, “I’m in talks with that right now, yeah, with MGM.”

MGM’s luck with trying to make Poltergeist hasn’t been good. Originally, Vadim Perelman was going to direct from a script by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. Financial problems plagued the studio, however, and the remake’s momentum slowed. There were rumblings earlier this year that the film was picking up steam again.

Lee is currently shepherding an American redo of Oldboy with Spike Lee directing.
