Comic Books: Zombie Dickheads & Feeding Ground

The undead and werewolves

Comics creator Chris Moreno returns to horror with his new creator-owned comic book “Zombie Dickheads Are NOT Coming to Get You,” debuting in October.

“Zombie Dickheads” is a comedic look at the undead apocalypse from the zombies point-of-view. It follows four dysfunctional zombies who don’t eat human flesh, as they attempt to find a place of their own in a world where they don’t fit in amongst other zombies, humans, and each other.

“They’re total jerks,” says Moreno, of the title characters. “Imagine the idiots who get everyone killed in zombie movies the day after they come back from the dead, and now they have to stick together. I’ve heard them referred to as ‘hipster zombies’, since they have a sort of ‘been there, done that’ attitude to the whole zombie thing. In a way, they’re sort of commentators on the whole zombie invasion of pop culture.”

“Zombie Dickheads Are NOT Coming to Get You,” a 48-page zombie horror comedy comic book, story, art and letters by Chris Moreno, will debut in October, available for sale at Chris’ convention appearances, beginning with the Nashville Horror and Comics Fest, Oct. 1 and 2, ZomBcon in Seattle, Oct. 21-23, as well as on the book’s website, ZombieDickheads.com.

A PDF of the first 8 pages is also available on the site.

Elsewhere, award-winning graphic novel publisher, Archaia Entertainment has set a release date of September 28 for “Feeding Ground,” a stylistic horror graphic novel telling the story of a Mexican family chased by werewolves as they cross the Mexico-U.S. border. Debuting in both English and Spanish, “Feeding Ground” deals head on with the debate surrounding illegal immigration.

“Feeding Ground” begins with a new nightmare plaguing the Mexico-Arizona border. A famine caused by Blackwell Industries drives Diego Busqueda, a noble “coyote,” to lead his family across the unforgiving “Devil’s Highway,” a desert cursed with blistering days and deadly nights. However, an ancient evil that has plagued the region for generations has emerged from the shadows. Pitting real-world border politics against a boldly reimagined werewolf mythology, Feeding Ground questions the very nature of survival.

Written by film critic, Swifty Lang and author Chris Mangun, “Feeding Ground” is a dramatic human drama heightened by the threat of unimaginable evil. A thoroughly researched graphic novel, “Feeding Ground” is unafraid to take an honest look at the controversy of illegal immigration.

The graphic novel is brought to life by graphic designer, Michael Lapinski, who is acclaimed for his work on several Nickelodeon series and 4Kid’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
