Red State Canadian Rights Secured

Who will distribute Kevin Smith’s film?

Phase 4 Films announced today that the company has acquired all Canadian rights to Kevin Smith’s Red State (review).

The film was written and directed by Smith and produced by Jon Gordon, and stars Michael Parks, John Goodman, Melissa Leo and Kyle Gallner.

Red State made its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Phase 4 plans to release the film in the coming months with a creative marketing and distribution campaign that will include a tour across Canada.

In the film, a group of Middle American teens receive an online invitation for sex, though they soon encounter fundamentalists with a much more sinister agenda.

Following the film’s Sundance premiere, Red State launched a tour in the U.S. starting in New York City, and has earned over $850,000 in box office revenue on fifteen single night engagements. The tour features a screening of the film followed by a live Q&A with Smith where he discusses the film and his career.
