This Means War’s Tim Dowling to Rewrite The Shroud

Robert Downey, Jr. to star?

Red Circle Films has brought on comedy scribe Tim Dowling to rewrite the script for The Shroud, in the wake of director Dan Taylor abruptly departing the project. The first draft was penned by John Ray Hax, adapted from his unpublished novel.

New pic will likely diverge from the original storyline, and is being eyed as a starring vehicle for A-list leads such as Robert Downey Jr., an actor Hollywood’s rumor mill has associated with the project.

The Shroud concerns a Vatican bounty hunter that is hired to retrieve the Shroud of Turin after it is stolen by a secret society of Yeti shape-shifters that wants to clone Jesus to bring about the Apocalypse and the end of humanity….humanity they do not share.

Dowling was named one of Variety’s 10 Screenwriters to Watch in 2010. Lately, Dowling has added action to his resume, having penned the upcoming Chris Pine-Tom Hardy pic This Means War, as well as the Midnight Run sequel for Universal.

CAA reps Dowling, who is also repped by Mosaic.
