God Hates the Lords of Salem, But Rob Zombie Loves ’em!

Rocker’s new film is announced

Haunted Films – the new production outfit from Jason Blum, Steven Schneider and Oren Peli (aka the Paranormal Activity team) – is teaming with Rob Zombie for The Lords of Salem.

The title is culled from the song track of the same name featured on Zombie’s “Educated Horses” album. If I recall correctly, Zombie intended to create a “Lords of Salem” band or comic book with Steve Niles. Neither came to fruition, but a cool animated video was created for the song, illustrated by David Hartman (see below).

Zombie is going to write and direct the film which is set against the backdrop of modern day Salem, Massachusetts where 300-year-old witches haunt the town.

He tells Deadline: “I wanted to break away from anything related to preexisting material. The remake train is getting pretty tired now and when I made Halloween, everybody complained, either that it was too much like the original or too different. I like that people either love or hate what I do because it’s better than being in the middle, which means forgettable. But when you do an original premise, they take it on face value and after three years of not being able to win on Halloween, I just couldn’t go through that again.”
