Hammer’s Woman in Black Casting Update

Not in 3D, Radcliffe talks “son” and director

Hammer Films’ The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, has added Janet McTeer and Ciaran Hinds to the cast. The latter will be seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. McTeer just starred in the thriller Roadkill for John Stockwell.

The Woman in Black follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote village and sort out a recently deceased clientâ??s papers. As he works alone in the client’s isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover tragic secrets, and his unease grows when he glimpses a mysterious woman dressed only in black.

Radcliffe’s character will have a son. The actor tells Total Film: “We were doing auditions for my son yesterday which was bizarre. But it’s very exciting and [director] James Watkins is fantastic. He might kill me for telling you this, but he’s actually started working with an acting coach to give him a better idea of how to approach stuff with actors. Which is a brilliant thing â?? I don’t know of any other directors doing that. He’s inspired and we’re uncannily on the same page about the film. We met and we agreed that this film is not a scary movie but a film about loss and family and grief.”

Shooting begins on the film on September 23. Hammer has opted not to shoot the film in 3D as originally planned.
