Update: Sam Worthington Could Be Dracula: Year Zero

From director Alex Proyas

Update: The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog confirms Worthington is indeed in talks to star in the film.

This origin tale of how Vlad the Impaler became the Dracula of Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire tale has been in development for quite some time now with Alex Proyas attached to direct. Now, Latino Review has got a hot tip on who we might be seeing playing the lead in Dracula: Year Zero.

Sam Worthington.

The star of Avatar, Terminator: Salvation and the upcoming Clash Of The Titans is speculated to be Dracula in the new radical interpretation of the character’s origins, which is estimated to carry a $100 million dollar budget. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penned the script which Proyas described as “an interesting and original take on this character. It’s all about how Vlad of Transylvania became this creature; the choices that he made to make him into this tragic character. It’s so intriguing to me, to approach this as a character study on a huge, epic canvas.”
