De Luca Describes 3-D Drive Angry

If you’re a fan of Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City

In their multi-part interview with Mike De Luca, whose career in the horror genre reaches back to titles like Freddy’s Dead and In the Mouth of Madness, Collider got the latest on Drive Angry, the 3-D grindhouse flick starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Patrick Lussier.

But first, we recommend reading the lengthy synopsis for the film we posted here.

De Luca describes the pictures as, “hyper pulpy,” which is clear from the plot crunch. “It’s kind of like hyper-pulp, just kind of blood drenched, heavy, heavy car chase action that if you’re a fan of early Shane Black scripts. If you’re a fan of from the ’70s Two Lane Blacktop or Vanishing Point and you’re a fan of Dust Till Dawn or Sin City, this kind of like glorious exhiltation of pulp movie-making. It aspires to be in that cannon, so that’s my torch way of describing why I’m excited by it because I like all those things. And Drive Angry to me had a blend of things I liked about Two Lane Blacktop and Duel and Vanishing Point and things I loved about Dust Till Dawn and things I loved about Sin City. And where we’re not as opulent as some of those films, we’re trying to be of that spirit.”

Summit Entertainment will release Drive Angry on February 11, 2011. More cast members are expected to be announced soon as filming begins this March.
