Reggie Lee On The Drag Me To Hell Experience

The actor on working with Raimi & Lohman

We got to chat with actor Reggie Lee last night at the 2009 Spike Scream Awards who was there to support Drag Me To Hell, which was up for several awards and ended up winning the best horror movie nod.

When asked if he was familiar with director Sam Raimi from the Spider-Man trilogy or the Evil Dead trilogy, Lee answered honestly, “Well, I of course knew Spider-Man. I’m one of the few people that didn’t know the Evil Dead trilogy but I watched it before I did this film and it was ridiculous! Sam’s unbelievable, I can’t say enough about that man. He’s the most generous person in the world, very collaborative and has a wicked sense of humor.”

Known as a prankster on set, especially with his actors, we asked if Sam ever pulled one over on him, but he tells Shock their working relationship couldn’t have been better. “He does have a wicked sense of humor and it comes out in very different forms when you least expect it,” says Lee. ” But what I loved most is he really let us tinker with our characters. And with a huge director like that, usually they’d say “I want you to do it this way.” But he gave us a great deal of creative input, a great deal of collaborative input, which made for an unbelievable experience.”

In Drag Me To Hell, Lee’s character Stu Rubin was very competitive with Alison Lohman’s Christine, as both of them were vying for the same promotion at the bank. How’d they get along in real life? “She was such a pro. I had to not like this woman in the movie, so I had to stay away from her because she’s just so nice. But she was great.”

Although he’ll next be seen in Life As We Know It with Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigel, we asked if he’d be game to do more genre work in the future. “Absolutely! Especially if it was with Sam, but I just love the horror genre. You know, my ultimate favorite is Rosemary’s Baby. That movie gives me chills! As long as it’s in some way real. That’s the sick part about Drag Me To Hell is that in terms of the characters it was real, but fantastic in terms of the other stuff.”

Drag Me To Hell is available on DVD and Blu-Ray this Tuesday, October 20th!
