Sam Sarkar, director of development over at Johnny Depp’s production outfit Infinitum-Nihil, is doing some talking over at MTV about Dark Shadows.
He tells the site Depp is still attached to star in this adaptation of the supernatural soap opera that premiered in the late-’60s, but Sarkar will not confirm or deny Tim Burton is in line to direct. “All I can say is that one is very active,” Sarkar said. “The studio [Warner Bros.] will be making some announcements regarding it pretty soon. Very soon, probably.”
In addition to revealing that Shadows has legs to become a feature film series, should it do well, Sarkar says the project has Dan Curtis’ blessing. “When Dan Curtis, the creator, was still alive, I met with [producer] David Kennedy, who originally brought the project to us and Curtis, and David has always been very adamant that there are certain things you should definitely take liberties with.”
