Universal Suits Up for The Knights Templar

Co-produced by Night Watch, Wanted helmer

They’ve been harbingers of evil in the Tombs of the Blind Dead series and Michele Soavi’s The Church, but in a new Universal horror actioner, The Knights Templar will be fighting on the side of good.

According to Variety, a script by Adam Torchia and Justin Stanley – which puts the Knights on the defense against a group of vampires hellbent on getting the Holy Grail – has been snatched up by Universal.

Marc Platt and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch) are producing. Platt previously produced The Seeker: The Dark is Rising.

Templar was originally developed by Ian Mansfield Rothkerch and Justin Stanley at Rothkerch’s Alucard Films. In 2003, Rothkerch passed away leaving Stanley to see it come to fruition with Torchia.

Stanley previously optioned Witchfinders to New Regency and Immortals to Universal. Torchia sold the script Strange Magic to Alcon Entertainment last year.
