Another Mummy Spin-Off in the Cards?

Further adventures of the O’Connell kid

The Mummy Returns made way for The Scorpion King (and it’s upcoming sequel). Now, it sounds as if The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor may birth a spin-off of its own.

Kudos to Clint at Moviehole for finding an interview with “Mummy 3” star Luke Ford embedded in the Australian paper Herald Sun. In the article, Ford reveals Universal is mulling over the idea of granting his character – Alex O’Connell, son of Brendan Fraser’s Rick – a spin-off series based on the success of the upcoming third chapter. “They’re picking me up to be in the franchise, not necessarily taking over it. I’d definitely like to be part of that series if they ask me again.” And elaborates with, “My character is basically trying to get my parents to see that I’m a grown man and can look after myself and you guys can include me as part of your team rather than protect me.”

Maria Bello, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh star in the Rob Cohen-directed “Mummy” installment. The film opens August 1st.
