Skipp, Spector’s Animals Ready to Roar

Adaptation casts up, shooting begins soon

Marc Blucas (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Nicki Aycox (Jeepers Creepers 2), Eva Amurri (Saved!), Andy Comeau (One Hour Photo) and Naveen Andrews (Grindhouse) are the central cast of Animals, an adaptation of the John Skipp and Craig Spector 1993 werewolf novel. It was a piece of work that put a cap on their splatterpunk legacy before the pair parted ways; Animals is the first to be developed for the big screen.

Spector optioned the rights earlier this year and penned a screenplay for Anonymous Content and T&C Films. Shooting begins next week in Salt Lake City, Utah with Doug Aarniokoski behind the camera. His resume mostly includes second unit directing work but in 2000 he gave us Highlander: Endgame. Aarniokoski also made a place for himself in the “Puppet Master” mythos. He wrote parts four and five. To pay the bills, we’re sure.

In Animals, “a blue-collar man in a dying factory town whose life is jolted after becoming involved in a romantic triangle amid a spate of uncontrolled violence.”
