Created by James Tynion IV with the help of artist Eryk Donovan and colorist Adam Guzowski, Memetic is a three-issue comic book series that was first published in 2015. The graphic novel reveals the true terror of the internet. It centers on a meme called Good Time Sloth that becomes an instant viral sensation. After 12 hours later, people who have been exposed to the meme suddenly became violent with the intent to murder anyone around them, who’s hasn’t been affected by meme, and these affected people are called “Screamers.”

However, some prove to be immune to the meme and the story centers on a young man, color-blind, who tries to navigate society’s fall into an apocalypse as he tried to find his boyfriend.

The novel’s official book synopsis reads: “Meme is an idea that starts with an individual, and then spreads to multiple persons and potentially entire societies. Richard Dawkins suggests a meme’s success comes from its effectiveness to the host. But history shows that destructive memes can spread just as rapidly through society. MEMETIC shows the progression of a weaponized meme that leads to the utter annihilation of the human race within 72 hours. The root of this apocalypse is a single image on the internet, a “meme” in the popular sense. A meme that changes everything.”
