Generation Z: Ben Wheatley

Generation Z: Ben Wheatley to Write and Direct Zombie Drama for BBC

Director Ben Wheatley is headed to the land of the dead. The Free Fire director will direct the Brexit-themed zombie series Generation Z for The BBC’s Channel 4, per a report from Deadline.

The six-episode limited series will examine how the issue of Brexit divided the country of Great Britain, and in the case of the show, leads to the dead rising up to feast on the brains of the living. In addition to directing, Wheatley will also write all of the show’s scripts, which will be a mix of geopolitical satire and straight-up horror.

I’m excited to be working with Channel 4 and The Forge. Generation Z is my first original created TV project and I couldn’t think of better partners,” Wheatley said about his project.

The future looks bleak for today’s youth, with seemingly endless austerity, astronomical house prices, insurmountable student debt, and a political system which appears intent on destroying itself. Then, to add insult to injury, their hard-earned taxes are being eaten up by the old, smug, self-satisfied, small-minded, ‘Little Englander’ pensioners whose remaining sole purpose in life is to make it a misery for everyone else.

Generation Z was commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Drama Caroline Hollick and Commissioning Editor Lee Mason. The series will go into production in 2020 and will be executive produced by Wheatley, Mark Pybus and George Faber.
