Orion Pictures Lands Rights to Simon Pegg & Nick Frost Horror Pic Svalta
According to Deadline, Orion Pictures has successfully acquired the rights to comedic duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s horror pitch titled Svalta which centers on family stuck on a foreign island. The film is co-written by Frost along with Stolen Picture’s creative directors James Serafinowicz and Nat Saunders.
“We are unbelievably excited to be partnering with Simon, Nick and Miles on Svalta,” Orion Pictures President John Hegeman said. “The story is scary, awesome and crazy, and their unique voice is perfect for this movie. We can’t wait to bring this to the big screen with them.”
Svalta will follow the story of family on their summer vacation to a remote Swedish island where they discover a serial killer is on the loose, but the locals have no interest in helping the stranded family of tourists. The title is taken from the name of the fictional island.
The film will be produced by Pegg, Frost and Stolen Picture’s Miles Ketley with Dan Kagan to oversee the project for Orion Pictures.
“Orion is the perfect home for the horrifying vision that Nick has conjured up from his maverick brain,” Ketley said. “We always said that everything we do has to come from left field and find something unexpected at its center and with this partnership with John and Dan and their amazing team — Svalta is the perfect project to do that.”
This project is only one of the many projects Pegg and Frost are currently working together. This year will be the 20th anniversary of the duo’s iconic partnership. They are best known for starring in director Edgar Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto film trilogy consists of the movies Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. Pegg and Frost recently starred in the horror comedy Slaughterhouse Rulez opposite Asa Butterfield, and Michael Sheen.
