A24’s The Hole in the Ground Lands March 1st Release Date

The Hole in the Ground lands March 1st

The long-gestating horror film The Hole in the Ground has been picked up by darling indie studio A24, and now Bloody Disgusting reports that it’s getting a limited theatrical release on March 1, 2019.

Writer/director Lee Cronin’s movie is said to draw similarities to the horror movie/meme generator The Babadook. The synopsis reads as follows: “Sarah and her young son Chris move to a new home in the Irish countryside, next to a forest that hides an enormous sinkhole. One night, Chris vanishes, and when he reappears he seems unharmed and unchanged. But, as his behavior grows increasingly disturbing, Sarah begins to fear that the boy who has returned may not be her son at all. The Hole in the Ground weaves suspense, terror, and supernatural folklore into a richly evocative story about the primal fears of motherhood.

The film stars Seána Kerslake (Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope) along with James Cosmo (Braveheart), Kati Outinen (The Man without a Past), and James Quinn Markey (Vikings).

Bloody Disgusting also reports that since the release will be similar to Bryan Bertino’s The Monster, meaning it will likely appear on DirectTV on or around its theatrical premiere. The Hole in the Ground will premiere next month at the Sundance Film Festival.
