When Is Obsession Leaving Theaters?

Obsession‘s digital release date has been pushed back owing to its successful theatrical run. The film was originally slated to premiere after 17 days on digital platforms, but Universal Pictures officially removed it from its digital release calendar and extended its theatrical run. This was largely because the film’s box office returns continued to grow with every passing week.

So, how long will the film continue in theaters? Here’s a breakdown.

When will Obsession leave theaters after digital delay?

Obsession has emerged as a box office hit. The film earned $17,196,855 in the first week, and it grew to $31,980,230 in the third week. This shows how the film’s theatrical release did unexpectedly well over the past weeks.

As per the original plan, the film was slated to release on digital platforms 17 days after its theatrical premiere. However, Universal changed the plan after seeing the box office growth. Recently, the studio removed the film from its digital release calendar.

If interest in the film continues, it could stay in theaters for up to 45 days. Most major films and high-profile releases stay on for around 45 days before getting a reduced number of shows. As such, Obsession could also slow down following the 45-day mark. This means that Obsession could run in theaters till sometime in July, pushing its digital release to later in the year.

Written, directed, and edited by Curry Barker, Obsession follows Bear, who buys a supernatural toy that grants him his wish for his friend Nikki to fall in love with him. The film stars Inde Navarrette, Michael Johnston, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.

So far, it has grossed $166 million worldwide.
