Many are curious to know why Gary, played by Cameron Britton, shot Ennis in Paradise Season 2. The character is introduced as a strange mailman and a sympathetic loner who was also a best friend of the man he ultimately killed. Why did Gary shoot Ennis in Paradise Season 2?
Gary shot Ennis due to his close bond with Teri in Paradise Season 2. He believed Ennis was responsible for leaking the hideout location information, which led to Teri’s abduction.
Initially, Gary and Ennis collaborated to lay out a plan to gather a group to deal with the apocalyptic situation. During The Day, Gary meets Teri’s husband, Xavier, revealing that he had been friends with his wife and that she had been abducted a few days earlier. This happened days before Xavier arrived at the hideout. He eventually comes to believe that Ennis is responsible for the abduction, as he suspects that he leaked information about the hideout.
In Paradise Season 2 Episode 5, titled “The Mailman,” Gary, feeling betrayed by Ennis, makes the unthinkable move of shooting him dead. This tragedy occurs when the group of survivors is headed to catch a train to Colorado. However, Gary never boards that train and instead stays behind to take Ennis’ life. Before the fatal moment, Ennis makes him understand that he must come to terms with the possibility of losing Teri, which ultimately fuels Gary’s anger.
There are high chances that Teri, instead of being kidnapped, may have been heading with the group of survivors toward the Colorado underground bunker. This group was also the same one Gary held responsible for Teri’s abduction, without knowing the truth.
