General Hospital Is Doing Something Special To Honor Late Anthony Geary

Fans of General Hospital are preparing for a touching tribute to a true soap legend. After Anthony Geary passed away on December 14, 2025, at 78, ABC confirmed they’ll honor the Emmy-winning actor with a special montage celebrating his iconic role as Luke Spencer. Geary’s mark on daytime TV is unforgettable, and viewers can’t wait to see the network pay tribute to his incredible legacy.

General Hospital to honor late Anthony Geary with a ‘loving montage’

ABC’s programming head, Nathan Varni, took to Twitter/X to give fans a heads-up that the network is doing something special for Anthony Geary. “Our team is working on a loving montage to be included later in the month. Keep an eye out. RIP Tony Geary,” he wrote.  The tribute will be more than just a simple memorial card or a rerun of his last episode. Fans have long said past gestures didn’t fully capture the giant mark he left on daytime TV.

Geary’s career in soaps spanned decades, kicking off in 1971 as David Lockhart on NBC’s Bright Promise. He also joined The Young and the Restless in 1973 as George Curtis. Next came his legendary role as Luke Spencer on General Hospital in 1978. Luke quickly became an icon, and Geary also played Luke’s doppelgänger cousin, Bill Eckert, from 1991 to 1993.

Anthony Geary’s work as Luke Spencer earned him a record-breaking eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor. However, his impact went way beyond trophies. Luke became one of daytime TV’s most iconic characters, helping pull in viewers and turning General Hospital into a cultural touchstone. Fans still rave about Luke’s rollercoaster storylines involving romances, tough moral choices, and more.

After leaving General Hospital in 2015, Geary moved to Amsterdam with his husband, Claudio Gama, and mostly stepped out of the public eye. Still, his mark on daytime TV stayed huge. The upcoming montage will honor both Geary and his legendary character, giving fans a final chance to celebrate his incredible career. While details on when and how it will air are still under wraps, the announcement has already sparked plenty of excitement.
