General Hospital’s Scarlett Spears Details Her Fears to TV Dad Maurice Benard

General Hospital‘s Scarlett Spears, who plays Donna on the show, opened up to her TV dad, Maurice Benard, on his podcast. She revealed that she’s scared of being ignored and feeling alone, explaining that the silence makes her uneasy. So, she often asks her parents to keep the TV on while she’s playing, because the background noise helps her feel like she isn’t by herself and people are around.

Scarlett Spears shares how she deals with her fears with General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard

During a conversation on Benard’s State of Mind podcast, Spears was asked whether there’s anything in life that makes her sad. She revealed that she doesn’t like being “ignored” and gets sad when she feels that “no one is listening” to her. Agreeing with her, Benard shared that he had similar struggles. However, he made her understand that one shouldn’t take such things personally and should try to ignore them.

Explaining further what she meant, Spears said, “It scares me when I’m alone, and I’m ignored. Like being in my bedroom alone or something.” She revealed how she gets around that and stated, “Whenever I’m playing with my dolls, and the TV is turned off, I’ll ask my dad to turn the TV on. When I hear voices, it feels like people are actually in the room with me. So I don’t feel scared. Do you know what I’m trying to say?”

Understanding her perception, Benard agreed that he too had troubles sitting silently and used to watch a lot of television. However, he gave his little TV daughter valuable advice on how to cope with such situations. “As life goes on for you — I do, too — you have to be comfortable in the silence. You should not need to put that TV on.” He said that while playing dolls and sitting alone, all one needs is “Yourself. That’s it.”
