In a recent interview, The Young and the Restless star Camryn Grimes got candid about her character, Mariah, finally facing the traumas that have haunted her for years. The latest episode of the soap opera saw Mariah hallucinate about Ian Ward at the mental health clinic. The encounter, albeit not real, forced her to address her deep-seated trauma.
Here’s what Camryn Grimes had to say about Mariah’s emotional journey.
Camryn Grimes says Mariah hallucinates about Ian due to trauma on The Young and the Restless
Speaking with Soap Opera Digest, actress Camryn Grimes opened up about Mariah’s revelatory conversation with Ian Ward.
“Prior to Ian coming back to Genoa City, Mariah was living a very happy life. But you’re never able to predict when something’s going to happen in anyone’s life where you might have to sort of re-review things. So I think in the simplest form, everyone can relate to that,” Grimes begins.
“Even though Mariah thought she had moved on, there are definitely things that can set you back and put you back in a place of trauma. And I think these scenes kind of deal with some things that she thought she had left behind, but are re-triggered and brought to the surface,” the actress added.
Grimes continues, “So they get really heavy and they get intense and they get very fraught with all of the past trauma she’s been through and the person who she holds responsible for all of that.”
Since Mariah’s conversation with Ian was all in her head, it showcases her true effort in confronting her inner demons. “For Mariah, there isn’t a lack of self-awareness, I would say, and there’s a deep desire to get better,” Grimes explains.
“So while Ian is sitting there, and he’s the reason that all of these things happened and she had the sort of past that she did, Mariah also understands and recognizes that she has been culpable,” the star added.
Grimes concluded on a positive note, expressing her delight to work with Ian’s actor, Ray Wise, again. She goes on to gush about her co-star, calling him “an icon and a legend.”
