CBS’s Matlock kicks off its second season on October 12, 2025, jumping straight from last season’s nail-biting finale.
Matty (Kathy Bates) finally put the pieces together and figured out that Julian (Jason Ritter), Olympia’s (Skye P. Marshall) ex, was the man who hid the incriminating documents concerning the Wellbrexa opioid case that cost Mattty’s daughter’s life.
Olympia also realizes that Matty hasn’t been completely honest with her. She’s actually joined the law firm to dig up the Wellbrexa opioid case files and figure out who was hiding the evidence.
Does Matty discover what Olympia is hiding from her in Matlock Season 2 Episode 1?
In the Season 2 opener of Matlock, “Continuance,” Matty (Kathy Bates) catches Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) red-handed, hiding key evidence in the Wellbrexa opioid case.
Using her detective instincts, Matty notices a new safe at Olympia’s place. Afterward, she sets up a clever distraction thanks to Edwin, Matty cracks the safe, and changes the real documents for fakes to make sure the evidence is not lost.
Not long before, Olympia discovered that it was her husband who actually hid the documents, but she refused to help him cover it up. She stashed the papers in the safe to set up a backup plan. If things went south, she could pin the blame on her father-in-law and save her ex-husband when the time came.
Olympia is smart enough to know that if the truth ever comes out, Julian could be looking at prison. This would not only destroy his reputation but also the law firm and his career. The timing couldn’t be worse, as Julian and Olympia are starting to reconnect for the sake of their kids.
In the same episode, a man shows up claiming to be Alfie, Matty’s grandson’s father. But he’s struggling with addiction and isn’t sober. Matty is cautious and insists on a DNA test, which confirms he really is Alfie’s dad.
This could open a whole new can of worms for Matty. Will the man try to drag her into a legal battle over custody, or can Matty and Edwin find some common ground with him?
